If You Can Sell Garbage, You Can Sell Anything
If you’ve seen that reality TV show, “My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss” which spoofed Donald Trump’s “The Apprentice” with a twist (the “Boss” and everybody involved in that show were all actors but the contestants didn’t know that until the final episode), you’ll know that in one episode, the contestants managed to sell very hot soup to customers on a very, very hot summer day.
They also managed to sell reusable toilet paper (!), environmentally-friendly tampons made of wood and other organic stuff (!!), and one or two other useless items (I don’t remember what they are now), to some customers.
Yep, people actually bought those items based on the sales spiel presented to them by the contestants.
Now being able to sell garbage to customers isn’t a recipe for long-term success. You know that.
But think about that for a moment.
If you can sell garbage, you really can sell anything.
And when you can sell anything, you’ll never go hungry again.
Ever.
Because selling is the most crucial skill you can have.
You sell your abilities and skills when you go for a job interview, to the job interviewers.
You sell your character and likeability when you go for a date, to the other party and her mother.
You sell your ability to lead when you manage people in your organization, to them and your superiors.
So selling is everywhere - even when garbage is involved.
Just like this guy below, who actually does sell garbage. Click the image and check out his web site:
No kidding.
